Hot spots! Best Bars and Restaurants with Fireplaces in Launceston

Tasmania is cold in winter time, there’s no denying that! But there’s often nothing finer than cosying up by an open fire with a superb red wine in hand. Our Holm Oak Cellar Door has a toasty fireplace that’s enjoyed by many visitors over winter time as they sit back and enjoy our range of wines.

As we sat by the fire one afternoon it got us thinking about other venues in Launceston that are ideal to visit on a lazy winter’s afternoon. So we decided to scout the city and its surrounds and bring you our favourite bars and restaurants that are equipped with a fireside retreat.

Here’s a few bars and restaurants with amazing fireplaces that are worth adding to your itinerary next time you’re in Launceston.

Roseveares Hotel

Just a short 20-minute drive north of Launceston, this hotel, bar and restaurant sits in one of the most scenic spots on the Tamar river and takes full advantage of the stunning water views that surround it. You can sit out in the newly renovated Beer Garden and Deck or cosy up by the open log fire in the Locals Bar. Stay for a night in one of the 26 modern hotel rooms or simply pop in for a relaxing meal or drink. The restaurant serves up modern Australian cuisine featuring fresh Tasmanian produce, including an array of seafood dishes or a tempting 12-hour slow cooked pork belly with crackling.

Hallam’s Waterfront Restaurant

Established in 1996, this award-winning seafood restaurant is located in an elevated, wooden tea-room style building reconstructed from an assortment of Tasmanian timbers. A brick open fireplace roars in the centre of the restaurant creating a homely ambience and making it a perfect choice for a long leisurely lunch. The menu features some of Tasmania’s finest seafood produce and specialises in in Tasmanian Rock Lobster, line caught Tasmanian Fin fish and premium farm fish, all sourced from pristine waters around Tasmania. It is also situated on the Launceston waterfront, overlooking the Tamar Yacht Club.

Clarendon Arms

Located in the picturesque little town of Evandale, 18 kilometres south of Launceston, this town is one of Australia’s best preserved historic hidden gems. Many of its late Georgian buildings are still relatively untouched, including this warm and cosy pub that was established in 1847. Their seasonal menu changes frequently and offers British pub style food that is hearty and warming in winter, plus a range of local artisan brews on tap.  While there is a spacious beer garden, best enjoyed with live music on Sundays, we love sitting by the cosy indoor fireplace that emanates old English charm and ambience.
