Cider

Cider is a new venture for us, with our first cider being released in March 2011. Tasmania is well known for the production of apples and pears, and cider is becoming an increasingly popular beverage. As a winery we had nearly all of the equipment required to make cider, we enjoyed drinking cider, and we also had access to some Sturmer apples (good ones for cider) so we decided that we would turn our hand to cider making as well as wine making.

We decided to call our cider brand Small Players, because that is exactly what we are. We also have two small children – Max and Will – who feature on the label along with Pinot d’ Pig and Bella, our chocolate lab.

We are making three styles of cider. A dry cider, a sweet cider and a perry. We are using 100% sturmer apples for our dry cider as these have great flavour and acid and are known for their cider making attributes. This cider is bottle fermented to achieve carobonation. Our sweet cider is made using dessert apples and is fresh, sweet and lightly carbonated. Our perry is made in a similar way to our dry cider.
